Dear Friends

The Better Days Foundation was set up out of a great need for long term support for those who lost a loved one in the attacks on September 11th, 2001 and is run by people who lost family members, friends and loved ones. It is our mission to provide victims families with support for many years to come though a variety of fun, healing programs. Our Motto is - It's about the kids!!!

My brother Michael, my love Scott and I shared a dream to open a summer camp for children in need. We came up with our plan after a family wedding on August 23rd, 2001. Scott was killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Scott was 29 years old and worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. Scott was planning to return to school and obtain his teaching certification. We had many dreams that we never got to realize together. During the summer of 2002, I organized and directed a summer program in his memory for 48 children who lost a parent or loved one on 9/11. It was a huge success. It was truly an amazing week for all of us who were involved; it provided support, healing and laughter to so many of us who hadn't laughed in so long.

The Better Days Foundation was created in April of 2003 out of what the Better Days board and staff believe is a great need for long term support for 9/11 children and their families. We at Better Days are working hard to provide families with ongoing support. Camp Better Days is run by certified teachers, licensed therapists, and camp staff who have years of experience working with children.

Applications for 2008 are now available. For more detailed information on our program, check out the Camp Section of our website.

YEAR ROUND PROGRAMMING

The Better Days Foundation hosts several events throughout the year. Examples of past events include an Orientation Luau party, week long camp at Echo Lake in August, reunions at Jenkinson's boardwalk, a Halloween party and Holiday parties, bowling, an overnight at Liberty Science Center, a trip to the Bronx Zoo and a breakfast ice skating day. We are always coming up with new and exciting events so keep checking the web for updates. We have found these events give our campers and their families a FUN outlet, surrounded by those who truly understand their journey, and something to look forward to in times that are very uncertain. Please check out our Events Section for upcoming events and information.

We at The Better Days Foundation understand how long the journey towards healing will be for our 9/11 families. We understand because we are on the journey as well. Our hope for all of you is that you can find some peace in your hearts. Better Days are on the horizon.

Lots of Love and Hugs,

Amy Callahan, Executive Director & the Better Days StaffDonate
